Types of Eyelid Surgery
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids. The process involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Dr. Alizadeh makes small incisions just below the lower lash line or inside the lower eyelid during the procedure. Through these incisions, he will remove excess skin and fat and may also tighten the underlying muscles and tissues.
Two primary types of incisions are used in lower eyelid surgery: transcutaneous and transconjunctival.
Transcutaneous incisions are made just below the lower lash line and are used to remove excess skin and fat from the lower eyelid. This incision typically results in a small scar hidden by the lower lashes.
Transconjunctival incisions are made on the inside of the lower eyelid and are used to remove or reposition fat from the lower eyelid. This incision does not result in visible scarring, as it is made on the inside of the eyelid.
The type of incision used in lower eyelid surgery depends on the patient's needs; sometimes, both incision types may be used to achieve the desired results. To conclude the surgery, the incisions are sutured closed. Lower eyelid surgery typically lasts one to two hours and is performed outpatient under local anesthesia with sedation.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids to improve the appearance of the eyes. The procedure involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
During the procedure, small incisions are made in the upper eyelids' natural creases, which helps conceal scarring. Dr. Alizadeh will then remove any excess skin and fat and may also tighten the underlying muscles and tissues to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance. After, the incisions are sutured shut, and the surgery is complete.
Upper eyelid surgery lasts one to two hours and is typically performed outpatient under local anesthesia with sedation.
Double Eyelid
Double eyelid surgery simultaneously approaches both eyelids at once. The upper and lower eyelids are addressed during the same surgery to achieve a more complete, total eye rejuvenation.
