Although the facelift has been successfully performed for many years, the procedure itself has advanced considerably, incorporating new surgical techniques and FDA-approved technologies. Dr. Alizadeh understands that the best outcomes stem from a multi-vector approach. In other words, unlike older facelift procedures, today's techniques involve less pulling and more repositioning of tissue. They can be supplemented with fat removal if needed, or NaturaGlow® fat grafting to replenish lost volume. What to Expect from Surgery

Traditional facelift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, and it usually requires one to three hours to complete. Surgery involves creating incisions above the hairline at the temples, extending to the front of the ear or inside the front cartilage and behind the earlobe. The skin and fat are separated from the muscles, which are then tightened. In addition, the supportive connective tissue of the face is manipulated or removed before being secured in a more youthful position. Any excess skin is excised, and the remaining skin is tightened to smooth wrinkles and deep creases. Once all tissues are optimally placed, the incisions are closed.

What to Expect During Recovery

Following a facelift, patients can expect some swelling and bruising, which will resolve with time. Dr. Alizadeh uses absorbable sutures and surgical tissue glues, eliminating the need for suture removal. As an added benefit, dressings are removed after the first 24 to 48 hours, helping patients feel much freer and more comfortable. Meticulous attention to anesthesia pain management protocols helps ensure that patients require minimal pain medication following surgery.

Patients must avoid strenuous activity for about two weeks after surgery, but they can usually return to normal daily routines within approximately ten days.

Most patient's scars from the procedure remain well hidden within the hair or natural creases of the face and ears, so they appear barely visible and fade over time. Patients can expect to see the full results of a facelift in the first few weeks after surgery.
