In February 2019, Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh celebrated the nine-year anniversary of the founding of Mission: Restore, his nonprofit dedicated to training surgeons in developing nations. The New York-based plastic surgeon created the nonprofit global health organization devoted to improving care and people's quality of life all over the world.
Almost a decade after his charitable vision became a reality, Dr. Alizadeh also traveled to Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Africa to further build partnerships for Mission: Restore.
While in Nairobi, he worked at a local hospital, as well as held numerous meetings for potential partners and trainees. In Addis Ababa, he established contacts for the annual regional training summit. More than 300 surgeons from 15 countries will attend the 2019 summit for training. Dr. Alizadeh's journey also took him to Cape Town, where he delivered a presentation for the Leaders Across Borders (LAB), a TED-style lecture for the annual YPO summit.
Last year, Mission: Restore added a nurse training track at the annual East Africa Regional Training event by partnering with LifeNet International. Dr. Alizadeh is tireless in his search for ways to expand the opportunities available for educating local healthcare providers.
Mission: Restore's specialized focus is on reconstructive surgery, with an emphasis on collaborative trainings, grants for surgical education, telemedicine, and doctor collaboration. An estimated 350 patients a year can benefit from one surgeon's training, since that surgeon not only works directly with patients, but can train other surgeons in the same advanced techniques. This can translate to more than 1 million patient lives affected, based on doctors currently trained by Mission: Restore.
